Community Action Turns 45
Honor Your CAA "pioneers"

In August 2009, the Community Action movement will mark an extraordinary milestone, the 45th Anniversary since the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson.  Community Action has been a vibrant, proactive network for 45 years—helping people, changing lives, and making American a better place to live—and this occasion will be commemorated with a variety of special events.  Success stories and “Community Action Pioneers”—those who have been in the movement since the beginning—will be honored by local agencies and on the national level during the 2009 Community Action Partnership Annual Convention in Philadelphia. Weatherization is all over the news due to funding for the program in the economic stimulus package (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) and it’s in The Promise magazine too.  Check out the Spring issue for the inside scoop on how CAAs are helping to Weatherize homes and train individuals for jobs in the field.  Also included are stories on a CAA speakers bureau, healthy families initiative, and a greenhouse that provides job training for disabled adults.  An Annual Convention update and details on the recent Rooting Out Poverty briefing are also highlighted.
